How to Maintain Your Tan
and When to Book Your Next One

Your tan is still working after you leave. Here is how to protect it, extend it, and know exactly when to come back in.

A spray tan keeps working after we leave. The DHA develops for the next several hours, and what you do in the following days decides whether your glow lasts five days or ten. The good news is that maintenance is pretty simple.

The First 24 Hours

This is the most important window. The tan is still developing and the bronzer is still transferring. Stay dry, stay cool, and keep fabric loose. Avoid sweating if you can. South Florida humidity is working against you here, but do what you can.

Your first rinse should be warm water only, no soap or body wash. Pat dry with a dark towel and apply moisturizer immediately while your skin is still slightly damp. This is not optional. Dry skin is the number one reason tans fade unevenly and early.

Moisturized skin holds color. Dry skin loses it. That is really the whole story.

Days Two Through Seven

Past your first rinse, the main thing is keeping skin hydrated. Moisturize every day, morning and night if you can. Use a tan-safe formula: nothing with AHAs, BHAs, retinol, or heavy mineral oils. These ingredients actively break down the DHA color and will strip your tan faster than anything else.

Showering

Keep showers lukewarm, not hot. Hot water opens pores and speeds up the natural shedding of skin cells, which is what takes the color with it. Cooler, shorter showers genuinely extend how long the tan lasts. Avoid long baths or soaking, and skip exfoliating body washes entirely while your tan is on.

The Pool and the Ocean

Chlorine and saltwater both fade tans faster. If you are going in, moisturize well before and immediately after. You will not ruin a tan in one swim, but daily exposure will shorten its life noticeably. A gradual tanning moisturizer used consistently can help compensate.

Shaving

Shaving does take some color with it, especially on the legs. Use a fresh razor, a moisturizing shave gel instead of soap, and put lotion on right after. Do not exfoliate around shaving days if you want to preserve the tan as long as possible.

When to Book Your Next Appointment

Most spray tans look their best between days two and six. By day seven to ten, depending on your skin type and how well you have maintained it, the color starts to fade and lift unevenly. This is normal. Your skin cells turn over naturally and the color goes with them.

For continuous coverage, booking every seven to ten days works well. If you are maintaining for a specific event, book your touch-up appointment at the same time as your first so you always have a slot secured. Our schedule fills up, especially on weekends and around holidays.
